NU Secures Twice-to-Beat, Tight Race for Second Spot in Women's Volleyball; FEU Dominates Men's Division
April 13, 2025 – UAAP Season 87 Volleyball
The playoff picture is beginning to take shape in the UAAP Season 87 Volleyball tournaments, with National University (NU) asserting dominance in both divisions and several teams still battling for key advantages in the final stretch.
Women’s Division: NU Secures Top Seed and Twice-to-Beat Advantage
The NU Lady Bulldogs (11-2) continue their commanding run in the women’s volleyball tournament, officially clinching the No. 1 seed and a crucial twice-to-beat advantage heading into the Final Four.
Hot on their heels are the De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Spikers and the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigresses, both sporting identical 8-4 records. Meanwhile, the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws (8-5) remain within striking distance.
With only a few games left, DLSU, UST, and FEU are locked in a three-way fight for the second seed—and the final twice-to-beat incentive. Every match now holds serious implications, as momentum and matchups in the semifinals could make or break championship dreams.
The University of the Philippines (UP) Lady Maroons (6-6) are still mathematically alive but will need to win out and hope for a miracle to sneak into contention. Adamson (5-7), Ateneo (4-9), and the winless UE Lady Warriors (0-13) have all been eliminated from Final Four contention.
Men’s Division: FEU Clinches Top Spot as NU Follows Close Behind
Over in the men’s division, FEU has emerged as the team to beat. The Tamaraws (12-1) have secured the top spot with only one loss this season, while NU (11-2) remains a close second after an equally dominant campaign.
UST and DLSU (both 8-4) round out the Final Four, having already distanced themselves from the chasing pack. Ateneo (6-7) made a late push but ultimately fell short, while UP (3-9), Adamson (2-10), and UE (0-13) are officially out of the playoffs.
What’s Next?
As the elimination rounds near their conclusion, expect intense matchups as teams fight for seeding, pride, and playoff survival. The final stretch promises fireworks, especially in the women’s bracket, where the battle for the second twice-to-beat slot is wide open.
Will NU complete their dominant regular season run with momentum heading into the playoffs? Can DLSU or UST steal the coveted No. 2 seed? And in the men’s division, will FEU carry their regular-season form to the title?
